Last Resort Season 1 Episode 2 Review

I really wasn’t sure where this show could go after last week’s blinder of a pilot. Yeah they are on their own island now, yeah they have nukes and yes they are prepared to use them. How exciting can that get though?

The answer is very exciting. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that Last Resort was the best TV this week so far. It has taken only 2 episodes for me to care about the central characters and the storyline is engaging and energetic.

After last week’s surprise nuke attack the USA has battleships encamped at the 200 mile radius Captain Chaplin had specified. They try to send in a submarine in but Chaplin hits it with a dud missile but not before testing the stealth Pegasus system we had heard about last week.
The USA really have something to fear as the system works and now a fully loaded trident class submarine can essentially go anywhere and as Kylie Sinclair put it, “there’s nothing they can do to knock those tridents out of the air if fired”.

The crew is still on edge and even more so when it appears a Delta team has possibly halo jumped onto the island. They gather up their best men and head out into the jungle to find them.
Unfortunately their best men aren’t trained enough, after another brush with death Lt Grace Shepard has become the most unlucky person on board this sub, all thanks to Robert Patricks Chief Joseph Prosser, a man who is slowly trying to turn the crew against the Captain and XO.

Speaking of the XO Sam Kendal, this week was an emotional one for him. After a phone call from his wife who is in government custody; where she bravely tells him to pretty much stuff the government’s plan. She is then shown a psychiatric evaluation tape of Sam when he had got back from being a POW, something she was unaware of. The government send in a covert agent to pose as a friend and lawyer to crack her, for some unknown reason.

James King the only proper Navy Seal on board saves the day by taking out the ‘not so Navy Seal team’ that landed on the island.
Turned out the Russians sent in their soldiers to take this powerful sub, unfortunate for them that the Captain has their boss running with his tail between his legs and King has shortened their best crew by a few numbers.

As it ended there were a few emotional turns and I was left thinking how good this show is. It has dropped 16% in its ratings since last week, if it drops much more I can’t see it lasting which is a shame. A really awesome show with a lot of potential, let’s hope more people start tuning in.
