What’s been happening this week then?
JLA and Batman reboot could have different Batmen:
Batman-on-film have reported that they ‘heard’ Warner Bros studio is “considering” the possibility of multiple Batmen. They would obviously love to continue Nolan’s universe but have something different for JLA. I personally think this is a bad idea, it won’t confuse many movie goers but it will rip continuity apart. Comic books have multiple versions of characters running at once, but very rarely will someone buy all those. Most folk find one or two they like and stick with it, movies don’t have the same freedom so I can’t see this working. At least it’s only a possibility just now and not definite.
First look at the Robocop remake suit in action:
This is the first photos from the set of Robocop which started filming in Toronto on 15th of this month.
There has been a lot to say about this suit in recent weeks and along with the script leak this film is looking weaker and weaker. I’m guessing the other hand doesn’t have a glove so he can use his gun?
People have been speculating a lot will be added post production, you can add what you like but you can’t add good taste.
Freddie Highmore cast as Norman Bates:
Young Charlie from Tim Burton’s remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has been cast as Norman Bates in the prequel TV show Bates Motel.
The show will also star Vera Farminga (Source Code, Up in the Air) as Norman’s controlling mother Norma.
With a Hannibal prequel TV show that looks to be good coming soon, lets hope that this can stand up to the phenomenal source material.
Guild Wars 2 sells over 2 million units:
The popular MMO that we have seen Davie from Ctrl.Cmnd.Continue play in the last few weeks has sold over 2 million copies. Very impressive stuff, people seem to be enjoying this and from what I’ve seen it looks like an enjoyable game.
Iphone 5 sells out in under an hour:
This really comes as no surprise, probably the most anticipated phone of all time so of course it would sell like water in the aftermath of a drought. The new specs don’t particularly impress me, it’s essentially a slightly faster, longer and thinner version of the Iphone 4s. No doubts I’ll end up getting it when my contract is up.
James Cameron nearly made Jurassic Park:
James Cameron was within an hour of buying the rights to Jurassic Park when Steven Spielberg snatched it up. Cameron said he would have made it darker like its source material, it would have been like Aliens with dinosaurs, he has said that having seen Spielberg version that he himself would have been the wrong person to make it.
So there’s an alternate universe out there with James Cameron’s Jurassic Park, where there’s nothing friendly about it and people get eaten in horrible ways, give me that dimension skipping device now.
S.H.I.E.L.D TV show to feature new characters:
The man himself Joss Whedon has said his pilot for the S.H.I.E.L.D TV show will feature all new characters, he has also said he doubts if any of the characters from Phase 1 or Phase 2 Marvel will make it in, he says “we can’t do a show where people are like ‘oh you just missed Iron Man he just left’ people wouldn’t believe it’ (That’s not a direct quote as I can’t find the actual quote but know it was along those lines).
I think as a TV show this makes sense, most of the Avengers cast are either too high brow or busy to make appearances on TV. It also means the show can concentrate on the bigger Marvel universe.
No directors cut for TDKR:
A couple of weeks ago it was hinted at that there was about 30mins of footage shot and not used in TDKR, everyone started speculating about a possible directors cut, it’s not usually Nolan’s style so I didn’t hold my breath and it’s a good job. It has been confirmed that there will be no directors cut. I’m sad but then again my bum doesn’t mind, the film is already on the long side, an extra 30min would send it into overdrive.
So that’s everything I found interesting this week. Anyone got anything to add just give me a wee comment.
